There is never a need, there are wants. As long as the game features repetitive time investment there will be bots. Titles, minipets, armour, rare weapons, rare crafting materials, gold, etc - all combine to cause botting.
Well there's only one possible solution then. Stop making games. I mean, if there's any sort of time investment, or repetative process, even in minute quantities, it's all the developers fault people cheat.
So let's write the foundation for the brand new Guild Wars, or for that matter, the future of MMO's.
- Everyone wears the same armor. There are no more choices guys and gals. It's all standard chainmail from here on in. No dyes, or guild capes either. Also, it's free.
- Melee players, you get one sword and sheild. Again, standard claymores, and round sheilds. Anything rare, or variant can cause unwanted desire from players. That is a forbidden emotion that can lead to botting for such unique items. Casters - You get a stick that looks somewhat like a Magic Wand, but really, it's just a stick. Sorry, but glowy effects will make what you have desirable. Again, we can't allow players to feel any sort of wanting.
- Mini Pets? We're sorry. We have to take them from you. Little did we know you'd all treat each other like crap over such a small thing. I suppose that's our fault, as developers, for making stuff though. We're learning our lesson. From now on you'll be gifted nothing.
- We're also removing all crafting. Seeing as how you get your standard armor from the start, also your sword and sticks, it's not necessary to incorporating crafting. We'll handle your equipment for you. Again, our fault. It's much safer for the community this way.
- And well...since everything is free..there's no gold anymore. That also means no quest rewards. No experience, or levels either. Also, to prevent repetition, once you've completed our game, you'll be forced to reroll characters. Don't worry, it's not that big of a deal. You get everything for free from the start.
-Because you all have the same equipment, you will all have the same stats. Seperation of power by statted items can cause botting to obtain those items. To solve this, we're removing all drops.
- Basically, what we're saying is, you're not allowed to ever show yourselves as unique. From here on in you must conform, like an army of Storm Troopers. Any reward you obtain will be removed from your account. This is for your gaming protection from bots. As long as we remove these key aspects, we can be assured that cheating will never happen. Welcome to the future of online gaming.
.........I can see where you're coming from. It is all the developers fault. Now that I really think of it, Even from the times of NES and Super Mario Brothers. All those times I had to use warp pipes to get to 8. It was their fault... all that repitition....I was forced to game genie my way to Bowser.
I also blame Konami. They're not innocent. Hey, Contra, Why should I have to repeat you over and over again? Way too time consuming. Up Up down Down Left Right Left Right A B A B Select Start!
I know it's fun to blame Anet for everything. We must avoid being labelled as Care Bears. That's simply not cool at all. Fear the "C" word. However, the real culprits are the greedy, impatient and lazy. It really is that simple. That's your cause and effect. Not the game.
I'm with most in that I want Anet to take a more proactive approach to cleaning out the bot infestation. They should make their presence known. Take a day, sit in the known botting zones, and start picking them off one by one, like a sniper on a mountain side.
But the idea that it's caused by design flaws? No.
Now I'll go ahead and say I'm sorry for whatever tone this message provides.
Would no form of anti-cheat or anti-cheat actions at all what so ever be a design flaw?
One design flaw that I can think of off the top of my head that is ANets fault are same exact spawns/routes/boss locations every time you zone into an explorable area

To prevent Farm bots, you make it pointless, unnecessary or impossible.
Random areas make it impossible for some types of bots, but not all. Disabling market at all and making all players get all the stuff by themselves also does, but it's kind of boring, and not a good idea for multiplayer games. Well, no one complains when it is like that from the start, but people would suggest it anyways.
Having its own bots (like Magic World Online, YES there are games that have their own bots, XDD) make them pointless.
And things like getting more rewards from normal gameplay, or getting most stuff by playing normally, without having to grind for anything make it unnecessary.
Who would use bots or pay for gold if all items where available in collectors, and only in collectors, and all trophies where untradeable?

Good so far.

Random generation works if and only if it makes completion too slow/impossible. If I recall correctly, there was a Mephbot in D2, even though Durance 2 was generated randomly.
The problem with no economy is that ANet wants to sell games to farmers and power traders too. Unlocking item skins/pets via accomplishments would probably make 90% of us happier, but ANet would lose 10% of its revenue. That's a losing proposition for them.

Then people just grind by repeating the main content, and you're back where you started. The only prospective benefit is that noobs MIGHT have an easier time PuGging if the rewards for playing full campaigns with full human parties were good enough.

Those who already have money. Their existing cash loses value faster than the bot can replace it when bots are the norm. Inflation is bad.
I'd love to hear a response, but I don't think "demanding" is appropriate.
I agree. (also deal with the bots in bergen international.)

Where do I sign up for that job?

NCsoft cant detect bots that what they proofed banning me while i was raptor farming.
Then they simple closed my thread and said its final.
So they just banning here and there in the hope they ban some of the bots and the innocent people have bad luck and loose evrything.

Not if anet actually took step against that.
few example, people say that you can make them undetectable, with a lot of hard work from developer of those bots (and the API they use to make them work) maybe, but they are not now.
I know personally few people who probably would never even thought of starting to bot if anet said something about taking a hard stance on botting.
I created an account on this board just to add my sign here.
Bot are killing the game, both in pve and pvp.
Anet isn't saying anything except they keep banning accounts. But as some people said here, there are bots doing the same shit day after day in JQ, they get reported like a million time, but nothing happens.
I wonder what would happens if hundreds of players send an e-mail to Anet support. Something saying how bots are killing the game, and so if Anet can't promise this will never happens in GW2, we just won't buy the game.
I guess they don't really care about GW1, and they wont put a lot of money in it anymore. But GuildWars 2 is the n#1 important thing to them now.
Maybe this would wake them up about the bot problem, and maybe they'd reconsider the emergency of doing something about it both for GW1 and GW2.
If you guys see a bot, report it to [email protected], or use their "Ask a Question" support page. It's your best chance at getting them banned. It's even better if you record the botters on a video using programs like fraps because screenshots aren't revealing enough. Fraps is free and easy to use. So if you're truly determined to stop botters from botting, record them, open up your email, attach the video, and just hope that they terminate their accounts. I did it once already, and they banned over 100 accounts because I reported it to them.

You work for ANet, don't you?
Also you're missing the entire point of this thread.
